Hypothermia should also have been considered to be a predictor of adverse perioperative cardiac events.

چکیده

LMA-PTM. It is not a single-use LMA-PTM because substantial details are designed and constructed in a different way to overcome weaknesses of other LMAsTM, as the producers of the LMA-STM promote their device. The LMA-STM’s clinical performance can only be evaluated in clinical trials. First published comparisons with a reasonable sample size between the LMA-PTM and LMA-STM showed clinically important differences in the seal pressure between both devices. We affirm our statement that acute airway obstruction of LMAsTM can occur at any time, and backup strategies for the failure of the backup device LMATM have to be considered.

Inadvertent hypothermia during the perioperative period

Inadvertent hypothermia, which is defined as temperature below 36°C, is common in the perioperative setting. Patients under general or regional anaesthesia have impaired temperature regulation/homeostasis. Temperature monitoring should be an established standard for all procedures that last more than 30 minutes. Unfortunately, study shows that it is not a common practice in European hospitals. ...

Perioperative Hypothermia (33°C) Does Not Increase the Occurrence of Cardiovascular Events in Patients Undergoing Cerebral Aneurysm SurgeryFindings from the Intraoperative Hypothermia for Aneurysm Surgery Trial

Background: Perioperative hypothermia has been reported to increase the occurrence of cardiovascular complications. By increasing the activity of sympathetic nervous system, perioperative hypothermia also has the potential to increase cardiac injury and dysfunction associated with subarachnoid hemorrhage. Methods: The Intraoperative Hypothermia for Aneurysm Surgery Trial randomized patients und...

Impact of metabolic syndrome in surgical patients: should we bother?

Clinicians inevitably encounter patients who meet the diagnostic criteria for the metabolic syndrome (MetS); these criteria include central obesity, hypertension, atherogenic dyslipidaemia, and hyperglycaemia. Regardless of the variations in its definition, MetS may be associated with adverse outcomes in patients undergoing both cardiac and non-cardiac surgery. There is a paucity of data concer...

Protective hypothermia: An old therapy with a new prospective

UNLABELLED Therapeutic hypothermia (protective hypothermia) has been known to have beneficial effects since ancient times but interest was renewed after two land mark publication a decade ago. The survival as well as quality of life of post cardiac arrest patients depends on neurological outcome. Mild induced hypothermia is recommended for improving the neurological status of these patients. Al...

The effect of anesthesia on body temperature control.

The human thermoregulatory system usually maintains core body temperature near 37 degrees C. This homeostasis is accomplished by thermoregulatory defense mechanisms such as vasoconstriction and shivering or sweating and vasodilatation. Thermoregulation is impaired during general anesthesia. Suppression of thermoregulatory defense mechanisms during general anesthesia is dose dependant and mostly...
